Reduce Crime Increase Participation (RCIP) is a grassroots initiative in Nigeria centred around cricket, fostering skill development and positive engagement among participants. Through strategic planning, teamwork, and public forums, RCIP empowers young individuals, promoting a sense of purpose and community responsibility.
HOW IT WORKS
Reduce Crime Increase Participation is a local Nigerian initiative built around the sport of cricket. During RCIP sessions participants learn how to plan and use tactics as well as work in teams and develop partnerships to drive successful outcomes. Participants are encouraged to present their strategies to their peers and discuss them in a public forum. Participants then take these skills onto the cricket pitch to develop them in real world settings. These sessions not only connected vulnerable young people to sporting opportunities, they also developed transferable skills like confidence, purpose, team work and communications. RCIP sessions are attended by Crime Prevention Partners and the police who take the opportunity to talk to young people about crime and how it negatively impacts their community.
